Silica gel: Do not eat

It's nice that big, corporate silica gel interests haven't polluted the Internet too much, so that this approachable, Notepad-created site about silica gel can get some attention.

This is a topic near and dear to my heart. When I was in high school, I wrote a long (or so it seemed at the time) paper about fumed silica. Fumed silica, silica gel, and sand are all silicon dioxide. Silica gel is the convenient dessicant form. Fumed silica is powder, so tiny that if you inhale too much of it, it gets embedded in your lungs and I guess eventually kills you. It's probably not a good idea to inhale sand, either. My mountain bike definitely doesn't like sand in its headset.
